玛丽·博兰1880生于费城，身高1.63 m，是美国著名的表演家。在底特律修道院受过教育，十余岁就登台演出，1905年首次在百老汇演出，不久就成为舞台上和早期无声片中出色的悲剧演员。但在二十年代的戏剧和三十年代的好莱坞影片中，她却成为了一位著名的喜剧演员，擅长扮演放荡、不拘小节的妻子和各种轻浮的女性。以在喜剧片《宠仆趣史》中的演出最为叫绝！另外还有代表作《玉女倾城 》《傲慢与偏见》《风雨血痕》等
